CVs / Curriculum Vitae / Resumes / Covering Letters
- When seeking employment it is critical to have a competitive CV and covering letter
-
- It is important that these stand out else candidates are unlikely to get to the interview stage
-
- They should be exceptionally well written, presented and reflect accurately your employment and academic history in a concise, succinct and professional manner
-
- CVs can be written to be ATS (applicant tracking system) compliant - see below for more details
-
- Throughout my career in industry I have seen many CVs and covering letters in order to make recruitment decisions at many career levels
-
- I have sat on both sides of the interview table myself when seeking employment and for recruiting others
-
- I am a qualified copywriter
-
- I have had scientific papers published which require exceptional attention to detail and the ability to communicate highly technical concepts succinctly and effectively
-
- Together we can craft a highly competitive CV and covering letter, whether from scratch or the editing of existing material you may have
Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)
- 75% of CVs will never be seen by human eyes
-
- An ATS system will filter through CVs and collect, sort scan and rank them
-
- 99% of large companies rely on such software to streamline their recruitment process
-
- There are many ways of optimising a CV to maximise the chances that it will successfully pass the ATS system
-
- For instance an ATS will not read information contained in the headers and footers of documents which can have an immediate impact on the chances of getting through to the 'human review' stage
-
- They will also look for buzzwords and keywords within the document
-
- An example of a buzzword would be 'proactive'. This does not distinguish candidates particularly well
-
- Keywords would be those that relate directly to the job
-
- The frequency and placement of keywords is the goal
-
- There are subtle differences between different ATS systems and I will optimise for all
-
- Once a CV has successfully passed through an ATS, the next hurdle is a favourable human review by the potential employer
-
- Typically they will decide in 6 seconds whether to continue with a candidates application
-
- Therefore it is crucial that a CV is ATS compliant, aesthetically pleasing and laid out in such a way that it attracts the employer to you and garners further review by them
